Long ago, in a forest untouched by time, there lived a young woman named Mira. She often walked among the trees, seeking something she couldn’t quite name. Though surrounded by beauty—the songs of birds, the scent of jasmine, the rustle of leaves—she felt something missing within.
One day, Mira found an unusual path, softly glowing beneath her feet. Drawn forward, she followed it to a hidden glade where a mirror stood, framed by vines and flowers. As she approached, she expected to see her reflection. But instead, she saw images of others—an old healer, a laughing child, a soaring eagle, a droplet falling into a pool.
Confused, she turned away. But a voice echoed: “Look again—not with your eyes, but with your heart.”
She closed her eyes, breathed deeply, and looked once more.
This time, she saw herself—not as separate from the forest, but as part of it. She saw light inside her chest, gently pulsing. It grew brighter as she realised each image she’d seen was a reflection of a part of her: her wisdom, her joy, her freedom, her connection.
Tears fell. She hadn’t been missing something. She had simply forgotten.
The forest had always been her teacher. The light within the eagle soared in her spirit. The healer’s touch lived in her kindness. The child’s laugh danced in her soul.
Returning home, Mira noticed things she’d overlooked—how each tree breathed with her, how people carried stories in their eyes, how every being had their own light, waiting to be seen.
She no longer felt separate or unsure. She walked with purpose, not because she had all the answers, but because she finally understood that the Divine lived within her—and within everyone.
From that day forward, she lived to help others find their light too. Not by giving it to them, but by showing them the mirror.
And so the forest whispered, “We are all connected. One light. One love. One truth.”

Community & Fellowship
Share in a Welcoming Community of Like-Minded People and Enjoy Afternoon Tea After the Service
Spiritual connection is not only about what we experience within ourselves. It can also be found in the friendships we build, the conversations we share and the sense of belonging that grows when people come together with kindness and openness.
At Pakenham Spiritualist Centre, community and fellowship are an important part of who we are.
Whether you attend regularly, are visiting for the first time, or simply wish to meet others who share an interest in spirituality, you are warmly invited to be part of our community.
A Place to Belong
Everyone’s spiritual journey is different.
Some people come seeking healing.
Some come to experience mediumship.
Some are drawn to spiritual teachings and meditation.
Others simply appreciate being in a space where they can talk openly, listen, reflect and spend time with people who share similar interests.
There is no expectation that everyone thinks or believes the same way.
What matters most is that we meet one another with respect, kindness and an open heart.
More Than a Service
Our Sunday gatherings are about more than the formal service itself.
They are an opportunity to:
- reconnect with friends;
- meet new people;
- share experiences and ideas;
- support one another;
- enjoy conversation and laughter;
- learn from different perspectives; and
- simply spend time in the company of others.
For some people, that sense of connection can become just as meaningful as the teachings or messages experienced during the service.
Afternoon Tea and Conversation
When the service concludes, we invite everyone to stay for afternoon tea, light refreshments and conversation.
There is no need to rush away.
Our afternoon tea provides an informal opportunity to relax, have a cuppa and chat with other members of the PSC community.
You may find yourself discussing something from the service, sharing a personal experience, catching up with friends or simply enjoying everyday conversation.
Sometimes fellowship is spiritual in the simplest possible way — people sitting together, sharing food, listening to one another and enjoying each other’s company.
Coming on Your Own?
You are very welcome.
Many people first attend Pakenham Spiritualist Centre on their own.
Walking into somewhere new can sometimes feel a little uncertain, but you do not need to know anyone before you arrive.
Our team and regular visitors will do their best to help you feel comfortable and welcome.
You are free to participate as much or as little as you wish.
Sometimes a simple conversation over a cup of tea is where a new friendship begins.
A Community Across Generations and Experiences
Our community includes people from different backgrounds, ages and stages of life.
Some have explored Spiritualism for many years.
Others are just beginning to ask questions.
Some attend because they have experienced the loss of someone they love.
Others are interested in personal growth, healing, mediumship or spiritual awareness.
There is room for curiosity.
There is room for questions.
And there is room simply to be yourself.
Supporting One Another
A strong community is built through small acts.
Offering someone a chair.
Making a cup of tea.
Listening without judgement.
Helping to pack up after a service.
Welcoming someone new.
Remembering a name.
Sharing a smile.
These moments may appear ordinary, but together they create the sense of belonging that makes a community feel like home.
Our Helpers and Volunteers
Pakenham Spiritualist Centre is supported by people who generously give their time and energy to help our services and activities run smoothly.
Our helpers assist in many ways, including welcoming visitors, supporting healing, preparing refreshments and helping with the practical tasks that happen before and after each service.
Every contribution, large or small, helps strengthen the Centre.
If you attend regularly and would like to become more involved, you are always welcome to speak with Rev. Pananda or one of the PSC team.
Connection Beyond the Service
Our community also extends beyond our fortnightly gatherings.
Throughout the year, PSC may offer workshops, special events, visiting mediums, community activities and other opportunities to come together.
Our newsletter and website help keep you connected with what is happening at the Centre and provide another way to share in the teachings, reflections and life of the PSC community.

It begins when people are willing to meet one another with kindness, curiosity and respect.

Spiritual Teachings & Meditation
Explore Spiritual Insights, Practical Teachings and Guided Meditation
Spiritual growth is often found not in one dramatic moment, but through reflection, learning, practice and the willingness to become more aware of ourselves and the way we live.
At Pakenham Spiritualist Centre, our teachings and meditations are offered to help you explore spiritual ideas in a practical, thoughtful and personal way.
You do not need to have prior knowledge of Spiritualism, meditation or spiritual practice. You are welcome to listen, reflect and take from each teaching whatever feels meaningful to you.
Spiritual Teachings
Our services regularly include a spiritual talk or teaching presented by a guest speaker, minister, medium or member of the wider spiritual community.
Topics may explore areas such as:
- personal responsibility;
- spiritual awareness;
- the journey of the soul;
- healing and forgiveness;
- gratitude;
- compassion and kindness;
- living with intention;
- free will;
- grief and continuing bonds;
- connection with Spirit;
- personal growth;
- mindfulness and presence; and
- finding meaning in everyday life.
Each speaker brings their own experiences, understanding and perspective.
The aim is not to tell you what you must believe, but to offer ideas that may encourage reflection and help you explore your own spiritual understanding.
Practical Spirituality
Spiritual teaching is most meaningful when it can be brought into everyday life.
A teaching may invite you to consider:
How do I respond when life becomes difficult?
Am I living in a way that reflects my values?
Where could I show greater kindness or patience?
What am I holding onto that may be ready to change?
How conscious am I of the choices I make each day?
Spirituality does not need to exist separately from ordinary life.
It can be expressed through the way we speak, listen, forgive, support others, care for ourselves and respond to the world around us.
Guided Meditation
Meditation is also incorporated into many of our services.
A guided meditation provides an opportunity to slow down, quieten the mind and bring your attention inward.
You may be guided through:
- breathing and relaxation;
- visualisation;
- grounding;
- healing intention;
- gratitude;
- connection with Spirit;
- self-reflection; or
- simple moments of silence.
You do not need to be experienced in meditation.
Simply sit comfortably, listen to the guidance and allow yourself to participate in whatever way feels natural.
What If I Find Meditation Difficult?
That is perfectly normal.
Meditation does not require you to completely empty your mind.
Thoughts may come and go.
You may become distracted.
You may feel deeply relaxed, or you may simply enjoy a few quiet minutes.
There is no “correct” experience.
The practice is simply to notice where your attention has gone and gently return to the present moment.
A Space for Reflection
Our teachings and meditations are intended to create space for you to pause and consider your own journey.
Sometimes a single sentence from a talk may stay with you.
Sometimes a meditation may bring a sense of calm.
Sometimes a teaching may raise new questions.
All of these can be part of spiritual growth.
You are encouraged to remain curious, thoughtful and open to your own experience.
Free Will and Personal Responsibility
An important principle within Spiritualism is that each person is responsible for their own choices and spiritual development.
A spiritual teaching should not remove your ability to think for yourself.
Instead, it may offer another perspective, invite reflection or help you recognise something within your own life.
You are free to question.
You are free to explore.
You are free to decide what has meaning for you.
Teachings at Our Regular Services
Spiritual teachings and guided meditation form part of many Pakenham Spiritualist Centre services.
Each service is different, depending on the guest speaker, medium and theme of the day.
Spiritual Healing: 1:15 pm – 1:55 pm
Main Service: 2:00 pm – approximately 4:00 pm
Location: Officer Public Hall, 16–18 Tivendale Road, Officer, Victoria
Our services also include music, prayer, mediumship and community fellowship.
You Do Not Need to Know What You Believe
Many people begin exploring spirituality because they have questions.
You may be looking for greater meaning.
You may be navigating change, grief or uncertainty.
You may simply be curious about spirituality and meditation.
There is no expectation that you arrive with answers.
Sometimes growth begins with the willingness to ask a different question.
Take What Speaks to You
Spiritual teachings are not about collecting more information.
They are about becoming more aware.
A teaching becomes valuable when it helps us reflect, grow, heal, understand or live with greater intention.
Listen openly.
Reflect honestly.
And take with you whatever may help illuminate your own path.

Mediumship
Experience Messages from Spirit and Evidence of the Continued Journey of the Soul
Mediumship is an important part of the spiritual work of Pakenham Spiritualist Centre.
During our regular services, visiting and resident mediums demonstrate their connection with Spirit by sharing information, memories, impressions and messages intended to provide evidence of survival — the Spiritualist understanding that consciousness and the soul continue beyond physical death.
For many people, mediumship can bring comfort, reflection, reassurance and a renewed sense of connection with loved ones who have passed.
You do not need to have experienced mediumship before to attend. You are equally welcome to receive a message, observe the demonstration, or simply experience the atmosphere of the service.
What Is Mediumship?
Mediumship is the practice through which a medium seeks to communicate with those who have passed from physical life into Spirit.
Within Spiritualism, the medium is understood to act as a bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds.
Rather than simply offering general advice, the medium seeks to provide recognisable details that may help the recipient identify the person being communicated with. These might include:
- personality and character;
- memories or shared experiences;
- relationships and family connections;
- places or significant events;
- interests, habits or mannerisms;
- circumstances surrounding their life; or
- other details meaningful to the recipient.
These pieces of information are often referred to as evidence of survival.
Only after establishing a connection may the medium also share a message, thought or reflection associated with the person in Spirit.
What Is “Evidence of Survival”?
One of the foundations of Spiritualist mediumship is the principle that communication should contain more than a comforting statement.
The medium seeks to provide information that has personal meaning for the recipient and may demonstrate that the identity, personality and memories of the person who has passed continue beyond physical death.
No single message or experience can determine what another person should believe.
Instead, Spiritualism encourages each individual to listen, reflect and decide for themselves what meaning — if any — they take from the experience.
What Happens During a Demonstration of Mediumship?
During our services, one or more mediums may work from the platform or move amongst the congregation.
The medium will usually describe what they are sensing and ask whether someone present can recognise the information.
When a connection is recognised, the medium will continue to provide further information and, where appropriate, a message from Spirit.
There is nothing that you need to prepare beforehand.
Simply listen and remain open to the experience.
Will I Receive a Message?
Possibly — but it cannot be guaranteed.
Mediums do not generally choose who will receive a message. They work with the connections they experience during the demonstration.
Attending a PSC service therefore does not guarantee that you will personally receive a message.
If you do not receive one, you can still gain a great deal from observing the evidence, teachings and experiences shared with others.
Sometimes a message given to another person may even contain a thought or reflection that resonates with your own journey.
You Are Always in Control
If a medium approaches you and you would prefer not to receive a message, it is perfectly acceptable to say so.
Participation is always your choice.
Spiritualism places great importance on free will and personal responsibility. A medium should not tell you how you must live your life, make decisions for you or create fear or dependency.
Messages may offer comfort, encouragement or something to reflect upon, but your choices remain your own.
Every Medium Works Differently
No two mediums work in exactly the same way.
Some may receive images or symbols.
Others may sense names, personalities, memories, emotions or physical characteristics.
Some describe the presence of Spirit visually, while others experience communication as thoughts, feelings or an inner knowing.
Because each medium has their own way of working, every demonstration has its own character.
This variety is part of what makes attending different PSC services interesting and unique.
Mediumship Is Not About Predicting Your Future
The primary purpose of Spiritualist mediumship at PSC is communication and evidence of survival, rather than fortune telling.
Messages may sometimes encourage reflection on your life or circumstances, but they should not remove your responsibility to make your own decisions.
Important medical, legal, financial or other professional decisions should always be made using appropriate qualified advice.
A Respectful Connection
Mediumship can involve memories of people deeply loved and missed.
For this reason, we aim to ensure that demonstrations are conducted with sensitivity, compassion and respect for both the recipient and the person being communicated with.
There may be laughter.
There may be emotion.
There may be moments of recognition that are deeply personal.
There may also be messages that require time to understand or reflect upon.
Each experience is different.
Mediumship at Our Regular Services
Demonstrations of mediumship form part of most regular Pakenham Spiritualist Centre services.
Our mediums and guest mediums change throughout the year, allowing visitors to experience different styles and approaches to spiritual communication.
Spiritual Healing: 1:15 pm – 1:55 pm
Main Service: 2:00 pm – approximately 4:00 pm
Location: Officer Public Hall, 16–18 Tivendale Road, Officer, Victoria
The service is followed by afternoon tea, conversation and community fellowship.
Do I Need to Be a Spiritualist?
No.
You are welcome whether you have held spiritual beliefs for many years, are exploring mediumship for the first time, are uncertain about what you believe, or are simply curious.
We do not ask you to accept something simply because someone else believes it.
Listen.
Observe.
Question.
Reflect.
And allow your own understanding to develop.
Come and Experience Mediumship for Yourself
Mediumship is difficult to fully understand simply by reading about it.
Sometimes the best way to explore it is simply to experience a demonstration for yourself.
Come with an open mind, listen to the evidence presented and decide for yourself what meaning the experience holds.
Spirit does not ask us to surrender our questions. It invites us to explore them.

Spiritual Healing
Experience Seated Spiritual Healing in a Calm and Supportive Environment
Spiritual healing offers an opportunity to pause, become still and receive healing in a peaceful and supportive setting.
At Pakenham Spiritualist Centre, healing is offered before our regular services by members of our healing team. You are invited to sit quietly, relax and allow yourself a few moments away from the busyness of everyday life.
For some, the experience brings a sense of peace and calm. For others, it may simply provide time for quiet reflection, stillness and connection.
There is no need to have experienced spiritual healing before, and you do not need to follow any particular spiritual or religious belief to participate.
What Is Spiritual Healing?
Spiritual healing is based on the belief that healing energy may be directed through a healer to support balance and wellbeing on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.
Within Spiritualism, healing is generally understood as a form of compassionate service. The healer does not claim to personally create the healing; rather, they act with intention, care and an openness to Spirit.
Each person’s experience is individual.
You may feel warmth, coolness, tingling, relaxation or a sense of stillness. You may feel very little at all. There is no particular sensation that you are expected to experience, and one response is no more meaningful than another.
The invitation is simply to be present.
What Happens During a Healing Session?
Our spiritual healing is generally offered as a seated healing experience.
You will be invited to sit comfortably while one of our healers works quietly with you for a short period of time.
You remain fully clothed throughout the healing session, and you are always free to stop at any time if you feel uncomfortable.
The atmosphere is intended to be gentle, respectful and peaceful.
There is nothing you need to do other than relax, breathe naturally and allow yourself to be still for a few moments.
Do I Need to Believe in Spiritual Healing?
No.
You are welcome whether you have a strong spiritual belief, are exploring Spiritualism for the first time, or are simply curious about the experience.
We encourage everyone to approach spiritual healing in their own way.
There is no pressure to accept a particular interpretation of what you experience.
A Moment to Simply Be
Modern life gives us many opportunities to do, but not always many opportunities simply to be.
A few quiet minutes can provide space to:
- slow your thoughts;
- reconnect with yourself;
- reflect;
- release some of the tension of the day;
- experience stillness;
- receive compassionate attention; and
- simply sit within a peaceful environment.
Sometimes healing begins with giving ourselves permission to stop.
Spiritual Healing Before Our Services
Spiritual healing is generally available before our fortnightly Sunday service.
Healing: 1:15 pm – 1:55 pm
Main Service: from 2:00 pm
Location: Officer Public Hall, 16–18 Tivendale Road, Officer, Victoria
You may come specifically to receive healing before the service, or incorporate the healing experience into your afternoon with us.
Our team will be happy to guide you when you arrive.
Is There a Cost?
Spiritual healing at our regular services is offered as part of the work of Pakenham Spiritualist Centre.
Where a donation is invited, it is freely given and assists us in supporting the ongoing activities of the Centre.
No one should feel uncomfortable because of their ability or inability to donate.
Spiritual Healing and Medical Care
Spiritual healing is offered as a complementary spiritual practice. It is not intended to diagnose illness, provide medical treatment or replace appropriate medical or other professional healthcare.
If you have concerns about your physical or mental health, you should continue to seek advice and treatment from an appropriately qualified health professional.
Spiritual healing may simply sit alongside the other forms of care and support you choose for yourself.
You Are Welcome
Whether you are seeking a moment of peace, experiencing a difficult period, exploring your spirituality or simply curious about spiritual healing, you are welcome to join us.
Come as you are.
Sit for a while.
Allow yourself a few moments of stillness.
And simply experience whatever the moment brings.

What to Expect
Your First Visit to Pakenham Spiritualist Centre
If you are visiting Pakenham Spiritualist Centre for the first time, you are very welcome.
You do not need to have any previous experience with Spiritualism, mediumship or spiritual healing. You do not need to belong to a particular faith or follow a particular belief system. Simply come with an open heart, an open mind and a willingness to experience the afternoon in your own way.
Our services are relaxed, welcoming and community-focused, with opportunities for spiritual reflection, healing, learning, mediumship and connection with others.
Before the Service — Spiritual Healing
Spiritual healing is available before the main service, generally from 1:15 pm to 1:55 pm.
Healing is offered in a calm and supportive environment by our Centre healers. You may choose to receive healing, or simply arrive closer to the commencement of the service.
There is no pressure to participate.
Our Service
The main service begins at approximately 2:00 pm and generally concludes around 4:00 pm.
Each service may vary slightly, but will usually include a combination of:
- a welcome and introduction;
- prayer, music or inspirational song;
- a spiritual talk or teaching from a guest speaker;
- meditation or group healing;
- spiritual reflection and inspiration;
- a demonstration of mediumship and evidence of survival; and
- a closing prayer or reflection.
Our guest speakers and mediums change throughout the year, so every service has its own character and experiences.
Mediumship and Messages from Spirit
One of the important elements of our services is the demonstration of mediumship.
Our mediums seek to provide evidence of the continued existence of the soul by sharing information and messages they receive from Spirit.
Messages are offered to members of the congregation as the medium is drawn to them. Attending a service does not guarantee that you will personally receive a message, and there is no expectation that you must participate.
You are very welcome simply to observe and experience the demonstration.
A Place to Reflect and Explore
You do not need to agree with everything you hear.
Spiritualism encourages personal reflection, free will and individual responsibility. We invite you to listen, consider what resonates with you, ask questions and allow your own understanding to develop naturally.
Your spiritual journey is your own.
What Should I Wear?
There is no formal dress code.
Wear whatever allows you to feel comfortable and relaxed. Our services are friendly and informal, and there is no expectation to dress in any particular way.
Do I Need to Book?
For our regular services, no booking is generally required.
Simply arrive, find a seat and make yourself comfortable.
Special workshops, events or visiting-medium sessions may require bookings, and these will be clearly identified on our Events page.
Is There a Cost?
We ask for a freely given donation during the service to assist with the ongoing costs of operating the Centre and providing our services.
There is no set fee for attending our regular Sunday service.
After the Service
Please do not feel that you need to rush away.
Following the service, everyone is invited to stay for afternoon tea, light refreshments and conversation.
For many people, this is an important part of the PSC experience — an opportunity to meet others, ask questions, catch up with friends and enjoy the sense of community that surrounds the Centre.
Coming on Your Own?
Absolutely.
Many people first discover PSC by coming along on their own.
You will find a friendly and welcoming environment, and our team will be happy to help you find your way, answer questions or simply help you feel comfortable.
