Story: “The Garden of the Forgotten Things”

There once was a woman named June who found a locked gate at the back of her property.

One day, curiosity nudged her to find the key.

What she discovered beyond the gate startled her—a once-beautiful garden, now overrun with weeds. Paths were hidden, flower beds buried, and vines tangled everywhere.

Yet, there were signs. A cracked birdbath. A bench worn smooth. She realised this was once a space of joy.

Then came a whisper—not from outside, but from within:

“This is where you placed the things you stopped tending.”

Her dreams. Her joy. Her boundaries. Her voice.

Not gone—just waiting.

So she got to work. A little each day. Not to make it perfect, but to show it mattered.

She planted new seeds. Some from her youth. Some new ones too. She learned how much love it took to care for something consistently—even herself.

Neighbours peeked over the fence, offering admiration and memories.

“This is where I belong,” she finally said.

Not because it was flawless.

But because she had chosen to belong—to her soul, her story, her sacred garden.

Service Reflection

Key Theme: You Belong—Honour Who You Are, Love Without Possession, and Nurture What You Cherish

This service, celebrating the Pakenham Spiritualist Centre’s anniversary, beautifully conveys a unified message drawn from teachings, readings, and Spirit’s wisdom:

  • You don’t need to change to belong. You are loved, valued, and part of Spirit’s great design simply by being who you are. No masks or fitting in required.
  • Love is not possession. True love allows freedom. It uplifts, liberates, and honours each soul’s path. Anything else slows spiritual growth—for both parties.
  • Respect your own boundaries. You teach others how to treat you by the way you honour your own needs, dreams, and truths.
  • Tend to what matters. Nurture your body, spirit, relationships, and dreams. Left neglected, these parts of your life wither—not from lack of worth, but lack of care.

In essence: You already belong. Live with integrity, love without control, and actively care for what you hold dear—including yourself.
