Story: “The Fourth Tree Within Me”

Journal Entry – November 3rd

Today, I remembered a story that I heard at the Spiritualist Centre—a story about four trees. Three grew tall and proud, boasting of the greatness they would achieve. The fourth… simply grew. Quietly. Gratefully. Humbly.

And it struck me: I’ve spent so much of my life trying to be one of the three.

I’ve chased recognition, tried to prove my worth through titles, achievements, polished performances. I’ve thought that only when I became “something more,” I’d be whole.

But this morning, something changed.

When I closed my eyes during the meditation, I saw a single tree—old, strong, still. I could feel its roots pulling deep into the earth, its branches stretching into the unknown. It wasn’t flashy. It wasn’t chasing light.

It was light.

I realised I’ve been so busy striving, I’ve forgotten to nurture what matters: my own joy, my family, the art I used to love, the stillness in my spirit.

That fourth tree? It wasn’t great because it survived.
It was great because it lived—whole and grounded in every moment.

I want that.

I am learning to water my spirit, not my ego.

To listen to the breeze, not the noise.

To be happy—simply and wholly—to just be a tree.

And if one day, something I’ve planted grows quietly in someone else’s heart… that’s more than enough.

Service Reflection

Key Theme: Nurture What Matters, Embrace Simplicity, and Honour the Eternal Spirit Within

This service weaves together a profound threefold spiritual lesson:

  • Nurture what you love—your dreams, relationships, health, and inner world. Nothing flourishes without attention and care.
  • Find peace in humility and simplicity, rather than striving for status or grandeur. As seen in the story of the fourth tree, quiet contentment and rootedness often lead to the deepest strength.
  • Know that you are eternal—your body is a vessel, but your spirit continues. Life and death are part of the same journey, not opposing ends.

These teachings guide us to:

Tend to the garden of your life gently, live simply with grace, and trust that your soul’s light continues to shine beyond form.
