Once, in a peaceful valley where the grass grew tall and the rivers ran clear, a gentle flock of sheep grazed under the watch of a wise old shepherd. The sheep lived in harmony, listening to the songs of the wind and the teachings of the Earth. They were content, for the shepherd led them with love, honesty, and care.
But one day, a stranger arrived—wrapped in the wool of a sheep, moving among the flock. This one spoke with smooth words and promised greener pastures beyond the mountain, greater abundance, and faster paths to peace—for a price.
Some of the flock began to follow the stranger. They were drawn in by his confidence, his bright words, and his dazzling promises. “Why wait for the slow unfolding of wisdom,” he said, “when you can buy your way to the light?”
But the old shepherd, seeing the shift in the flock, sat upon a stone and called gently, “Do not be fooled by what wears a robe of wool. Listen with your soul, not your ears. Truth never hurries. It walks barefoot and humble.”
The stranger scoffed, his smile sharp behind the soft wool. “He is old and slow,” he whispered to the flock. “I bring the faster way.”
But then came a storm. The mountain path the stranger had promised was washed out. Those who followed him found themselves cold, alone, and lost—while he disappeared into the darkness, his coat of wool abandoned on a thorn bush.
The ones who returned to the valley were received not with shame but with compassion. The shepherd lit a fire, offered warm blankets, and said, “There is no shame in learning, only wisdom gained. But remember: the Light does not sell itself. Truth asks nothing but your honesty. Spirit cannot be bought, only lived.”
And from that day on, the flock grew wiser. They learned to feel truth, not just hear it. They honored compassion over charisma, and integrity over illusion. And when another came, wearing wool that didn’t quite fit, the flock did not judge—but they listened carefully, with their hearts.
Moral:
Not all who speak of light walk in it.
Let your soul discern what your eyes cannot.
True spiritual guidance asks for nothing but your presence, your honesty, and your trust.
Be wary of those who promise shortcuts to enlightenment, for Spirit walks the long road with you—step by sacred step.
