It wasn’t the climb that broke him.
It was the voice in his head.
“You’re too old.”
“You chose the wrong path.”
“This isn’t worth it.”
As the rain fell harder and his boots slipped in the mud, the old man’s breath grew heavy with doubt. The mountain was shrouded in mist. He couldn’t see the top—only the slippery ground before him.
Still, he walked.
Every thorn that scratched him seemed to echo a harsh memory. Every step whispered a fear. He cursed the climb. He cursed himself.
But still, he walked.
Then—something changed.
He ran out of complaints.
His thoughts slowed.
And just as suddenly, the clouds began to part.
A shaft of sunlight spilled across the trail, catching on the rocks like gold. And in the stillness, he heard… nothing. No judgement. No fear. Just breath. Just peace.
He looked back and realised—he hadn’t been climbing a mountain.
He’d been climbing out of his mind.
He smiled, wiped his brow, and whispered, “Just a few more steps.”
Because now, the journey didn’t feel like punishment. It felt like a blessing.
And the peak?
It was already inside him.

Service Reflection
Key Theme: Live in the Present, Let Go of Mental Struggle, and Trust the Light Within
This service offers a gentle and empowering call to live more mindfully and spiritually:
- The present moment is all we truly have. Worrying about the past or the future only robs us of peace. Our strength is in the “now.”
- Struggles are necessary for growth. As shown in the story of the man climbing the mountain and the butterfly poem, struggle creates strength, clarity, and transformation.
- Our thoughts are not who we are. Like clouds, thoughts come and go. Suffering arises when we attach to them—peace arises when we simply observe and let go.
- We are connected by Spirit and supported by the unseen. Through stillness, healing, and self-awareness, we awaken to our eternal, divine nature.
In essence: Let go of past and future fears, embrace the power of the present, and trust that your light shines brightest when you surrender to Spirit.
